My first draft essay.....

Could I Become a Wedding Planner?

I’ve always loved organizing and schedules; it takes a lot of

both to become a wedding planner. The thought of becoming a

Wedding Planner never crossed my mind till a couple days ago.

Would I be cut out to be a wedding planner? Well, I'm organized and

love planning. ever since I was a little girl I would sit down, plan out

my day, and make a list of what I wanted to get done in a day. There

is a lot to organize in a wedding. A year ago my sister got married

and she didn’t have a wedding planner so me and my mom helped

her out a lot. You definitely have to deal with a lot of people and if

your not there telling everyone what to do then the wedding will fall

apart. While the bride, my sister, was enjoying her wonderful

wedding my mom was being the wedding coordinator and working

out everything for her. She made it a lot less stressful for my sister.

That's what I would do for all the brides I would plan for. I am willing

and ready to do that. I definitely got a little taste of what it takes.

I love weddings! I also love everything that comes with weddings the

food and dancing. I am mostly interested in learning how to get

started in the business, if I’m going to be wedding planner. What

classes do I take in this business? Where did they go to college?

How is this business work with having a family? I don’t know to much

about this so I am excited to learn as much as I can about becoming

a wedding planner.

The first person I interviewed was Joni Papi. She wasn’t able

to meet me in person so I talked to her on the phone. She was an

event planner. First of all she doesn’t only do weddings she does

other events as well. Second of all she mostly is in charge of the

image. The lighting, flowers, colors and over all look of the wedding.

Joni has been an event planner for 24 years. She told me that since

she was a baby she absolutely loved flowers. She got into the

business by working in her dads floral arrangement job, but she really

started getting business when she set up a table at a wedding fair at

Earl Warren Show Grounds. The people who came to her table loved

her unique style and that kicked of her business. When she was

talking to me about her area of business it didn’t sound like

something I wanted to do but I learned that there is more than one

kind f job for a wedding.

My next interview was more of the business I was looking for. I

spoke to Toby Theule on the phone. She was so sweet. She

had 3 kids and she was a wedding coordinator. So right away I knew

that since she had kids this could be a family business which is

something that I want to keep in mind. She usually does 3 weddings

a year but this year she is doing 6. So it’s flexible and you can

moderate how many you want to do. A typical day in the business of

wedding planner is talking on the phone a lot and planning for the day

of the wedding. She usually meets with the couple ahead of time and

goes to the rehearsal and then is there the whole day for the

wedding. She works out time intervervals and fixes any problems

that occur before and during the wedding. She works with the

caterer, DJ, photographer, and anything else that is needed for the

specific that wedding. She got interested in the business later on in

her life when she herself got married; she really enjoyed planning her

own wedding. So when her friend was getting married she asked her

if she could plan her wedding for free and then her friend could be the

referral for her future business. She planned her friends wedding and

it went great. Her friend was now her referral and whenever

someone was interested in having there wedding planned they would

go to her referral and she would recommend Mrs. Theule.

It was really comfortable talking to her on the phone, she told

me everything I wanted to know. She told me a story about what

happened at one of her weddings. There was a father daughter and

a mother son dance and the mother didn’t want to do the dance so

Toby had to find her and convince her to go dance. She finally did.

The wedding planner saved the day. I liked hearing storys from her

experiences since I might have some of the same experiences if I

ever become a wedding planner. I really enjoyed talking to Mrs.

Theule. She asked me if I wanted to go with her to one of her

weddings in the summer and check it out. I was super excited!

I took a trip to the library a couple weeks ago with my class and

went looking for a book on wedding planning. I was a bit

disappointed because I didn’t find any books specifically on wedding

planning, but I did find a book on running your own business. It was

kinda boring but I did look through some of the parts that interested

me. The book was called “Launching Your First Small Buisness”.

Being in charge of your own business sounds like hard work. You

are in charge of all your products and sevices. So I would have to

have everything ready for my clients. I also would have to deal with

the activitys of my business, I would have to make all the

arangments. If I needed help in some areas like finacail things I

would need to higher people to work for me and make sure they get

payed. So I would not only be in charge of the buisness but also the

people who work for me if I choose I need that kind of help.

I also looked at a book which gave me the main idea of a

wedding consultant and it said the exact thing I was expecting it to

say. It said that a wedding consultant is suppose to advise brides

what to wear and on flowers, catering services, silverware style,

pattern china, glassware, stationary, and invitations. They are also in

charge of photography and making sure the photographer takes the

pictures there suppose to take. So the consultant has a lot to think

about, and has a major opinion.

Looking into wedding planning has given me a better idea

about it then before and I have had some great opportunities open up

for me when researching. I will continue to research and pursue

becoming a wedding planner. In the near funture I hope to

apprentice some professionals in there work. I pray that God will

guide me in this business but if not I’ll just see where he takes me.

What I want to do before I die........

Before I die I would like to:
-go on a big road trip with my friends,
just get in the car and go not plan anything out. Just go. Around the united states maybe Alaska or Chicago and stay with friends and relatives.
-bungee jump. maybe go with a friend and jump off. ahhhhh!
-get married
-have lots of kids
-lead alot more people to the Lord

My interview

Yesterday I talked on the phone with Toby Theule I asked her most of the questions off of the interview sheet and it was really cool to hear her thought and experiences. My thoughts about a wedding planner were exactly the same as she explained them to me, it was awsome. She was super nice and I would love to do what shes doing in the future. The coolest thing was that she offered me to come along with her on one of her jobs sometime and be like an apprentice to her. I am really glad I got to talk to her and get a great oppertunity.

I-Search Essay "Could I be a Firefigher"

-I thought the author gave a good description of her thoughts and feelings
-I never got bored reading it so I guess that means I liked it.
-She just went right into the paper there wasn't much of an Introduction.
-Her concrete details were great I liked her descriptions of everything. I really got an idea of what she was seeing.

Construction Worker

I interviewed my dad yesterday. He told me he knew he wanted to be a construction worker when he was in high school, so he knew for a long time. He moved up in the buisness by experience, so he just helped other people and worked for other people, until he got his own buisness. I thought it was cool how my dad knew he wanted to be in life when he was so young.

I am planning interviewing my dad to see how he wanted to become a construction worker but I haven't had the time hopefully I can do it before tomorrow. Sorry.
